State Education Department Announces 2019 Essential Elements: Schools to Watch

The 鶹, in partnership with the New York State Middle School Association and the Statewide Network of Middle Level Liaisons, recognized five new schools as 2019 Essential Elements: Schools to Watch (EE:STW), Commissioner MaryEllen Elia announced today. The designation is awarded to exceptional middle level schools that meet rigorous criteria and are on a path of continuous improvement.

“All of these remarkable middle schools are dedicated to the children they serve,” Chancellor Betty A. Rosa said. “The teachers and school leaders in each of these schools are steadfast in their commitment to excellence, as well as continuous improvement.”

“These exemplary schools are working hard to achieve positive outcomes for their students,” Commissioner Elia said. “The middle school years represent a period of personal growth and development for young adolescents, preparing them for success in high school and thereafter.”

New York is proud to announce the five newly designated 2019 Essential Elements: Schools to Watch:

  • Corning Painted Post Middle School (Painted Post, NY)
  • Millbrook Middle School (Millbrook, NY)
  • Mineola Middle School (Mineola, NY)
  • Plainedge Middle School (Bethpage, NY)
  • Rocky Point Middle School (Rocky Point, NY)

The five newly designated schools are only a part of the 2019 EE:STW cohort of exemplary schools. Every three years, schools that wish to retain their EE:STW designation must reapply for consideration. For a complete list of this year’s designees, including those schools that have been re-designated, please visit the New York EE:STW website.
