Is LPP Effective?ÌýÌýYES

Data from the 2016 – 2017 LPP program evaluation revealed a variety of compelling results. Some of the more salient outcomes from the evaluation include:

  • 14,207 middle and high school students who are at-risk for dropping out of school in New York State received services through LPP.
    • An average of 347 students served per site.
  • LPP programs provided over 679,000 hours of support services.
  • An average of 16,570 services hours per site and 48 service hours per student.
  • Common core services accounted for over 157,000 hours of service.
  • Other activities ranged from providing college and career readiness skills to introducing LPP students to a variety of cultural enrichment activities.
  • 96% of LPP students in grades of 5 and 11 advanced to the next grade level in 2017-18.
  • 2,063 of the LPP High School seniors (94%) graduated high school.
    • 94% of graduating seniors plan to attend college.
  • There was a positive relationship between LPP participation and:
    • improved classroom grades
    • improved Regents exam scores
    • improved school attendance

LPP is prioritized for the following program activities:

  • skills assessment,
  • tutoring,
  • academic and personal counseling,
  • family counseling and home visits,
  • mentoring programs (formal and informal), and
  • staff development activities for personnel with direct responsibility for such students (germane to dropout prevention)
