The Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) of the Â鶹¹ÙÍø (Â鶹¹ÙÍø) presents this first webinar in its 2025 Professional Learning Series:Ìý Languages for All: Universal Design for Differentiation from the Start.Ìý This webinar is offered free of charge for world language educators and administrators working and studying in New York State educational institutions.Ìý 1 hour of CTLE credit offered.
Webinar description: ÌýAll students should have access to language learning, so how can we effectively differentiate for all learners? This webinar will provide a brief introduction to Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its implications for language learning. Through this lens, instead of the time-consuming process of creating modifications and accommodations after creating a lesson, participants will develop strategies for cultivating agency and empowering self-differentiation for all learners right from the start of the planning process, including steps they can take the very next day.

Registration process: ÌýAll participants are encouraged to pre-register for this event.Ìý Pre-registration will close on Friday, January 17, 2024; there will be no same-day registrations. ÌýOnce the registrant's email address has been verified as being from a New York State school, college, or university, an email confirming their registration will be sent.Ìý Twenty-four hours prior to the event, all registered individuals will receive login instructions with the link to join the webinar.Ìý Only pre-registered attendees will be eligible for a certificate documenting attendance and/or CTLE hours.Ìý

Webinar presenter: ÌýRebecca Aubrey has over 20 years of teaching experience at the college level, and 15 years of experience teaching Spanish in grades K-8. As an advocate for equitable access to quality language learning from an early age, Rebecca has presented broadly on topics that include differentiation, target language use, thematic planning, and language proficiency. She is the 2019 ACTFL National Teacher of the Year, and has served as President of CT COLT, Executive Secretary for NNELL, and the PreK-8 representative to the AATSP Board of Directors. Rebecca also serves as an independent consultant for ACTFL and school districts across the country. Rebecca is passionate about exploring the cultural and linguistic diversity of our world, and equally passionate about empowering students to do the same.
