Message from the Indigenous Education Coordinator
She:kon, welcome to the 鶹 Office of Indigenous Education website. I am Clarissa Jacobs “Tekahionwake” tribal member of the St.Regis Mohawk Tribe, turtle clan. I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the 鶹 Office of Indigenous Education’s Coordinator.
As Coordinator, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established through previous Native American Education Coordinators, through building strong relationships with Indigenous students, Tribal leaders, colleges, universities, parents, school districts, and community partners. My staff operates on the principles of Professionalism, Character, Collaboration, Leadership, and Innovation to support a vision that every Indigenous student will have the tools and opportunity to become the leaders of tomorrow. We will use student data to leverage partnerships to increase Indigenous culture and language learning opportunities and will work closely with other SED program offices such as: My Brother’s Keeper, Bilingual Education and World Languages, Student Support Services, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
We are eager and excited to begin what promises to be the future of Indigenous Education here in New York State. This year is going to be amazing as we continue to provide academic experiences for our students that are rigorous, and to help them build relationships while making real-world, industry-specific connections. As your Indigenous leader, it is important for me to help every Indigenous student here in New York State graduate from high school.
As we work together to meet future challenges to help New York State students, Tribal nations and school districts build positive working relationships.
Nia:wen:kowa,
Clarissa Jacobs
鶹 Indigenous Education Coordinator
